IM Vlaicu Crisan
This new idea was planted in my head by our Roumanian IM in this field: Vlaicu Crisan, an enthusiastic chess problem solver and composer.
He was kind to send me a mate in 3 problem, which took him 5 years to finalize it, between 1987 and 1992. The problem participated in the Eugen Rusenescu Memorial where it got...the last place. But he didn't get discouraged and he sent it again to the Fide Album 1992-1994 (where the best problems between these years are being published) and...it is now there! Happy-end:) For those who speak Roumanian language, in case you haven't read it yet, check the monthly interview (there is an interesting photo album as well) on our Federation's website! You will be able to make a clearer image about this world, of solving competitions.
White to move: mate in 3.
Composed by IM Vlaicu Crisan.
And 3 more studies to really get your shape back:) The next positions are taken from Schaaksite.nl where you can also read, in Dutch language, the full article on the 2nd Tata Chess and Studies Day.
Can White make a draw?
By Gady Costeff.
How do you make draw with White?
By Piotr Murdzia and Andrzej Jasik.
White to move and win.
By Jan Timman.
I like so much the feeling I have when I finally see the solution; it is worth the time and energy spent and, above all, I feel richer and smarter:)
Good luck and, in case you have interesting studies, don't hesitate to share it with us!
